Things to Consider When Choosing an SEO Agency For Your Business

With so many options, picking the right Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) agency can be a stressful task for any small or medium sized Perth business. But spending time researching and comparing not only price but more importantly the quality of the service provided however, can save you money and anguish in the long run. SEO is a crucial part of any Digital Marketing Campaign so you need to make sure you choose the right SEO Agency to handle it. The following post will outline some key areas to keep in mind when choosing an SEO Agency in Perth, so you can get it the right the first time and maximise your return on investment.

The Butcher DOES Eat His Best Meat.

Have you ever heard the phrase: “The butcher doesn’t eat his best meat?”

You probably haven’t, and that’s ok, because I am sure it was made up by a manager I had at an old job. The company was a Digital Marketing Agency and they had terrible SEO for a business of that size. Whenever a potential punter would question why they should engage an SEO Agency that had terrible SEO themselves, my manager would retort: “Because the butcher doesn’t eat his best meat.” Well I can categorically say that is a load of Bull****. If an SEO agency has poor SEO themselves (think unoptimised website, Google Business Page or Meta Data description) then they obviously do not consider it a critical component of a Digital campaign nor do they practise what they preach, and this should raise an immediate red flag.

You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do

Again, the above snappy phrase is not mine, but rather Carl Jung – which hopefully carries a bit more weight than something sprouted from an old manager of a now defunct business…

Be very wary of promises and guarantees when considering an SEO Agency. SEO is a dynamic beast that takes time and effort to tame. Because of the length of time it takes to see real results, some SEO agencies (particularly overseas agencies) will prey on a small business owners’ impatience and promise results like: “we will get you to page one in under a month.” This is not realistic and if it is accomplished it is very likely it has been done via black hat techniques (SEO practices Google will penalise). The best SEO agencies will show you their past results and set realistic expectations that will be accomplished as your campaign rolls out. They are not focussed on ‘set and forget’ but rather constantly nurturing and tweaking your SEO so you build up healthy and consistent traffic over time.

Transparency

This is so critical to get across that I elected to forgo using an ambiguous quote. When you are talking to an SEO Agency consider the language they are using and the data they are presenting. Now don’t get me wrong SEO is complicated, complex and has a language all of its own; but if an SEO Agency cannot explain: what they are doing, how they are doing it and the results you are getting, in a language you can understand then they are not doing their job and leaving the door open for all kinds of mis practice
